The dam and hydroelectric power station EDF Serre-Ponçon: an exceptional industrial heritage. In 1955 began the construction of Serre-Ponçon, the first earth dam built in Europe, creating the largest artificial lake in France (1.2 billion m3 of water). It is the main reservoir that supplies the 250 km of the Durance canal and its 20 hydroelectric plants. The Serre-Ponçon power plant is the most powerful in the PACA region; it is a multipurpose structure: energy production, drinking water reservoir, irrigation of agricultural land, development of tourism: beaches and all water sports as at sea! Free visit of the dam and the House of water and energies from July 1st to August 31st.
The families will particularly appreciate the comfort and safety facilities around the lake, the many fun visit sites as well as the seasonal activities.
The beaches are accessible to doggies - except of some managed ones. Plan the canisacs for the well-being of all!
